Australia Temporary Graduate Visa (Subclass 485)

The Subclass 485 visa, or Temporary Graduate visa, allows international students who have recently graduated from an Australian educational institution to live, study, and work in Australia temporarily. It has two main streams: the Graduate Work Stream, for graduates with qualifications related to an occupation on Australia's Skilled Occupation List, and the Post-Study Work Stream, for those with higher education degrees. Eligibility criteria include age, English language proficiency, and health insurance requirements, enabling graduates to gain valuable work experience in Australia.

Eligibility

  • Be 35 years old or younger (exceptions may apply).
  • Be in Australia at the time of application.
  • Hold an eligible visa.
  • Have held a Student visa within the last 6 months.
  • Possess a recent degree from a CRICOS-registered course.
  • Provide evidence of adequate health insurance for all applicants at the time of application.
  • Submit proof of having applied for an Australian Federal Police check, as per character requirements.
  • Demonstrate the required level of English with your application.

  • Bachelor’s degree: 3 years.
  • Master’s degree (by coursework): 3 years.
  • Master’s degree (by research): 4 years.
  • Doctoral degree: 5 years.

Regional centres and other regional areas:

  • Bachelor’s degree: 4 years.
  • Master’s degree (by coursework): 4 years.
  • Master’s degree (by research): 5 years.
  • Doctoral degree: 6 years.

Cost

The visa costs AUD 1945.00 for the main applicant.

There is also a charge for each family member who applies for the visa with you.
