British Columbia’s Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) conducted another Skills Immigration draw on May 14, 2026, inviting more than 430 candidates to apply for provincial nomination.
In total, the province issued 437 invitations to apply to candidates in the Skills Immigration stream. This marks the fifth Skills Immigration draw of 2026.
The invitations were divided between two selection criteria focused on high economic impact. Slightly more than half of the candidates—225 in total—received invitations based on a combination of a strong job offer and high wage. These candidates had a job offer in a TEER 0 to 3 occupation with an offered wage of at least $59 per hour, roughly equivalent to $120,000 per year.
The remaining 212 candidates were invited based on their registration score, with a minimum cutoff of 135 points.
This draw falls under the province’s “Innovate” initiative, which aims to attract experts and innovators across various sectors to help position British Columbia as a leading destination for international talent. Through this approach, the BC PNP targets highly skilled workers in a wide range of in-demand occupations and industries.
The program has indicated that future high economic impact draws may use different selection factors. Possible factors include level and field of education, where the education was completed, professional designations obtained in the province, length and skill level of work experience, language proficiency, specific occupation, wage and skill level of the job offer, intention to live and work in a particular region of the province, and alignment with the province’s strategic labour market priorities.
So far in 2026, this represents the third-largest Skills Immigration draw. Earlier larger draws took place on April 22 (484 invitations) and February 11 (460 invitations). Another significant draw occurred on February 4 with 429 invitations. All of these recent high-volume draws, including the latest one, focused on candidates with strong wage and job offer profiles in TEER 0-3 occupations.
For context on the current pool, as of May 6, 2026, there were 9,967 active registrations in the Skills Immigration registration pool. The largest number of candidates—2,107 or about 21.1 percent—fell into the 100 to 109 point score range. The distribution across other score ranges shows a healthy number of profiles in the mid-to-high ranges, though only a small number of candidates scored 140 points or higher.
To date this year, British Columbia has issued a total of 2,143 invitations through its Skills Immigration category. The province has also held eight Entrepreneur Immigration draws, issuing at least 49 invitations across its Base and Regional streams.
How the BC PNP Skills Immigration Selection Process Works
Candidates interested in immigrating to British Columbia through the Skills Immigration stream must first create a profile and submit a registration. Each registration is scored based on a combination of human capital factors (such as education, work experience, and language ability) and economic factors (primarily related to the job offer). The maximum possible score is 200 points.
The province then periodically reviews the pool of registrations and issues invitations to candidates who meet the current selection criteria. These criteria can change depending on the province’s labour market needs and economic priorities.
Registrations are valid for up to 12 months. After this period, candidates must submit a fresh registration if they wish to remain in the pool.
Successful candidates who receive an invitation have the opportunity to submit a full application for provincial nomination. If approved, a nomination from British Columbia significantly boosts their chances of obtaining permanent residence through Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
This latest draw continues British Columbia’s focus on attracting high-impact economic talent to support the province’s growth and address labour shortages in key sectors.
