Express Entry Pool Gets More Top Heavy: What It Means for Your Canada PR Chances (June 2026 Update)

The Express Entry pool is becoming increasingly competitive at the top end. According to the latest data released by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), between May 24 and June 21, 2026, the number of high-scoring profiles (501 CRS and above) grew dramatically — at a rate 4,400% faster than the overall pool.

While the total Express Entry pool grew by just 0.33% (from 238,847 to 239,645 candidates, a net increase of 798 profiles), the number of candidates with CRS scores of 501 or higher surged by 14.64%. This shift makes the pool noticeably “top heavy,” meaning more strong candidates are competing for the limited number of invitations issued in each draw.

Key Changes in the Pool Composition

The most significant growth occurred in the 501–600 CRS score range, which increased by approximately 11.52% and now represents 8.35% of the entire pool. The 601–1,200 range also saw substantial growth, adding 609 profiles — a reversal from the previous reporting period when this high-scoring band had actually declined.

Other notable gains were seen in the upper-mid ranges:

  • 471–480: +278 profiles
  • 481–490: +275 profiles

On the lower end, several score bands contracted significantly. The 0–400 CRS ranges lost a combined 1,312 profiles, while the 411–460 ranges dropped by 1,489 profiles. These reductions in lower bands are attributed to profile expirations, withdrawals, ineligibility updates, or candidates improving their scores and moving upward.

Current Competitiveness of the Pool (as of June 21, 2026)

Here is a breakdown of the Express Entry pool distribution:

CRS Score Range Number of Candidates Percentage of Pool
0–300 8,104 3.38%
301–350 17,946 7.49%
351–400 51,897 21.66%
401–500 ~65,000 (approx.) ~27%
501–600 20,012 8.35%
601–1,200 941 0.39%

Approximately 10% of all profiles now sit in the top-scoring bands, yet typical Canadian Experience Class (CEC) draws only invite the top 1-2% of candidates. This concentration at the higher end increases pressure on applicants with moderate CRS scores.

Draws During This Period

Between May 24 and June 21, IRCC issued 7,834 ITAs across three draws:

  • May 25: Provincial Nominee Program – 334 ITAs (CRS 805)
  • May 27: Canadian Experience Class – 3,000 ITAs (CRS 518)
  • May 28: French-Language proficiency – 4,500 ITAs (CRS 409)

Note that the June 21 pool snapshot does not yet reflect the large CEC draw on June 23 (4,000 ITAs at CRS 516) or the PNP draw on June 22.

Strategic Advice for Candidates

The growing number of high-CRS profiles means candidates must focus on maximizing every possible point. Key actions include:

  • Improving language test scores (English/French)
  • Gaining additional skilled Canadian work experience
  • Pursuing a provincial nomination for 600 extra CRS points
  • Ensuring accurate and complete profile information
  • Considering further education or job offers that boost your score

Even small improvements can move you from the middle of a band into invitation range.
