How Have IRCC’s Processing Times Changed Since Mid-July 2025?

As of September 10, 2025, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has updated processing times across various immigration pathways. This article provides an overview of these changes compared to mid-July 2025.

Permanent Residence Applications

Express Entry

Processing times for Express Entry programs have remained relatively stable:

  • Canadian Experience Class: 5 months (unchanged)

  • Federal Skilled Worker Program: 7 months (up from 6 months)

  • Federal Skilled Trades Program: Data not available due to insufficient information

IRCC's service standard for these applications is 180 days.

Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)

Processing times for PNP applications have experienced slight variations:

  • Enhanced PNP (via Express Entry): 8 months (no change)

  • Base PNP (non-Express Entry): 20 months (up from 19 months)

IRCC's service standards are 11 months for online base PNP applications and 180 days for enhanced PNP applications submitted electronically.

Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP)

Processing times for AIP applications have increased:

  • Current Processing Time: 13 months (up from 12 months)

IRCC does not publish service standards for AIP applications.

Family and Partner Sponsorship

Processing times for family and partner sponsorship applications have generally increased:

  • Spouse/Common-law Partner in Canada (SCLPC):

    • Intending to reside outside Quebec: 36 months (up from 34 months)

    • Intending to reside in Quebec: 40 months (up from 38 months)

  • Family Class:

    • Intending to reside outside Quebec: 13 months (up from 11 months)

    • Intending to reside in Quebec: 41 months (up from 37 months)

IRCC's service standard for Family Class overseas applications is 12 months. The SCLPC category does not have a specified service standard.

Temporary Resident Applications

Temporary Resident Visas (TRVs)

  • Outside Canada: Processing times have increased for most countries, except Nigeria and the Philippines.

  • Inside Canada: Processing times have decreased slightly to approximately 14 days.

Work Permits

  • Outside Canada: Processing times vary by country, with some experiencing increases, notably Pakistan.

  • Inside Canada: Processing times have increased slightly to approximately 188 days.

Study Permits

  • Outside Canada: Processing times have increased for most countries, except India and the United States.

  • Inside Canada: Processing times have decreased to approximately 10 weeks.

Citizenship Applications

  • Citizenship Grants: Processing times remain at 10 months, consistent with mid-July.

  • Citizenship Certificates (Proof of Citizenship): Processing times remain at 5 months for applications submitted from within Canada and the U.S.
