Canada Shines in Global City Rankings Too
Canada’s impressive showing in the 2025 Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards didn’t stop at the country-level rankings. The nation also earned multiple mentions in the publication’s lists of the world’s best cities, with Canadian destinations featured prominently across both “Best Small Cities” and “Best Big Cities” categories.
Victoria, British Columbia — The World’s Best Small City
Leading the way, Victoria, the capital of British Columbia, secured the #1 spot in the Best Small Cities category.
Described by Condé Nast Traveler as “a destination that deserves its own visit, not just a day trip from Vancouver,” Victoria impressed readers with its charming atmosphere and coastal beauty.
The magazine highlighted several standout experiences — including “one of the world’s most scenic ferry rides across Swartz Bay” and the city’s famous British-style high tea traditions, served at elegant cafes and hotels throughout downtown.
Montreal and Vancouver Among the World’s Best Big Cities
In the Best Big Cities list, two major Canadian hubs — Montreal and Vancouver — both secured top 10 spots, reaffirming Canada’s reputation for urban excellence balanced with cultural vibrancy and natural beauty.
Montreal earned 9th place, celebrated for its mix of old-world charm and modern energy. Condé Nast Traveler praised its “picturesque Old Montreal neighbourhood, with cobblestone streets and a stunning Gothic Revival cathedral.” The city was also noted for its forward-thinking creative culture, visible in “its contemporary art museums, eclectic bars, and design-forward hotels.”
The publication also emphasized that Montreal’s culinary scene sets it apart globally, with renowned restaurants like Joe Beef and Au Pied de Cochon named as must-visit dining spots that showcase the city’s unique French-Canadian gastronomy.
Meanwhile, Vancouver impressed readers enough to earn 7th place among the world’s top big cities. The magazine applauded Vancouver’s combination of “creative arts, natural landscapes, and outstanding food culture.”
As Condé Nast Traveler put it, “There’s something magical about visiting a city where you can enjoy a five-star meal one day and admire the skyline from a kayak the next.”
This unique blend of urban sophistication and outdoor adventure makes Vancouver one of the most desirable cities for travelers, students, and professionals alike.
Why These Rankings Matter
