Canada Holds Second Consecutive Provincial Nominee Draw in Express Entry

Canada has conducted another Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) draw through the Express Entry system, continuing its focus on selecting candidates who can support regional labour market needs across the country. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) issued 334 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) to candidates in the latest Express Entry draw held on May 25, 2026.

To receive an invitation in this draw, candidates were required to have a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 805. This high cut-off score is common in PNP-specific draws because candidates nominated by a Canadian province automatically receive an additional 600 CRS points, significantly boosting their overall ranking in the Express Entry pool.

This marks the second consecutive PNP-focused Express Entry draw and reflects Canada’s ongoing strategy of prioritizing skilled workers who have already been selected by provinces and territories based on local economic demands. Provinces use their nomination programs to address labour shortages in sectors such as healthcare, technology, skilled trades, transportation, and hospitality.

So far in 2026, Provincial Nominee Program draws have remained one of the most frequent categories under Express Entry. Canada has consistently invited candidates through PNP rounds alongside Canadian Experience Class (CEC) and French-language proficiency draws.

The latest draw follows another PNP draw conducted earlier in May, where 380 candidates received invitations with a CRS cut-off score of 798. The increase in CRS score in the recent draw suggests rising competition among provincial nominees and a continued emphasis on targeted immigration selection.

Canada’s immigration department has increasingly focused on candidates already living and working in Canada or those with strong ties to provinces through employment opportunities and provincial nominations. This trend aligns with the federal government’s efforts to support economic growth while ensuring newcomers can integrate successfully into regional communities.

Express Entry remains Canada’s primary immigration selection system for economic immigration programs, including:

  • Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP)
  • Canadian Experience Class (CEC)
  • Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP)
  • Certain Provincial Nominee Program streams

Under the PNP pathway, provinces and territories can nominate skilled foreign workers who meet specific labour market and economic requirements. Once nominated, candidates gain a major advantage in the Express Entry system due to the additional CRS points awarded.

Throughout 2026, IRCC has conducted draws across multiple categories. These include French-language proficiency draws, healthcare and social services occupations, trades occupations, and category-based selections for candidates with Canadian work experience.

The Canadian government has also continued expanding category-based selection to address labour shortages in priority sectors. Occupations related to healthcare, STEM, transportation, and skilled trades remain highly sought after in several provinces. As a result, many provinces are actively using their PNP streams to attract qualified candidates with relevant experience.

Recent provincial activity also highlights this trend. British Columbia recently invited more than 430 candidates under its Skills Immigration streams, focusing on high economic impact occupations and candidates with strong employment potential.

Similarly, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland and Labrador have continued issuing invitations through their provincial immigration programs to attract skilled workers and international graduates who can contribute to local economies.

For immigration aspirants, the latest Express Entry draw demonstrates the growing importance of provincial nominations in securing permanent residence in Canada. Candidates with lower CRS scores may still have strong chances of receiving an invitation if they successfully obtain a provincial nomination.

As competition within the Express Entry pool continues to increase, applicants are advised to improve their profiles through language test scores, Canadian education, work experience, or provincial nomination opportunities.
