Newfoundland and Labrador recently issued 202 invitations to apply for provincial immigration through the Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Nominee Program (NLPNP) and the Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP).
Of the 202 invitations issued on August 29, 125 were extended to NLPNP candidates, while the remaining 77 went to AIP candidates.
Recent Immigration Draws
Since May this year, Newfoundland and Labrador has conducted two draws each month. Most invitations during these draws have been issued to NLPNP candidates. The NLPNP has not specified which specific streams of its program the invitations were drawn from.
In recent draws:
-
At the end of July, 150 invitations were issued, including 100 for NLPNP candidates and 50 for AIP candidates.
-
In mid-August, 231 invitations were issued, with 180 going to NLPNP candidates and 51 to AIP candidates.
-
The August 29 draw issued 202 invitations in total, split between 125 NLPNP candidates and 77 AIP candidates.
Eligibility Requirements
Candidates wishing to immigrate to Newfoundland and Labrador under either the NLPNP or AIP must have a job or a valid job offer from an employer in the province.
Expressions of Interest (EOIs) that align with the province’s labour market needs are given priority for invitations.
For NLPNP candidates, notifications of invitations are sent by email. Selected candidates can then submit a complete application for provincial nomination through their “Immigration Accelerator” portal account.
For the AIP, employers receive an email notification along with a confirmation letter through the portal. The employer can then apply for provincial endorsement of the job offer.
It’s important to note that most immigration candidates, except those already in Canada applying only through the NLPNP, must receive an invite code from their employer before submitting an EOI.
Background on Newfoundland and Labrador Immigration
The province currently has an allocation of 2,525 provincial nominations, distributed between the NLPNP and AIP. Earlier this year, the government increased its allocation, allowing an additional 1,000 foreign nationals to be nominated.
The AIP allocation remains at 475 endorsements. The NLPNP has also implemented an Expression of Interest system, creating a two-step process where candidates first submit an EOI and, if selected, can proceed to a full application.
