The Government of Yukon is transitioning to an intake-based system for applications to the Yukon Nominee Program (YNP).
Under this new approach, the YNP will accept a limited number of applications during each intake period. Once the application limit is reached for a specific intake, no further applications will be accepted until the next intake opens.
The first intake for 2025 will begin on January 29, with a maximum cap of 125 applications for nominations to the YNP.
While the YNP plans to hold future intakes on a quarterly basis, a fixed schedule has not yet been established.
The size and frequency of future intakes will be adjusted based on the nomination allocations provided by the Canadian federal government. Yukon has also requested an increase in nomination allocations for 2025.
About the Yukon Nominee Program (YNP)
The Yukon Nominee Program (YNP) is the territory’s primary initiative for providing nominations that enable foreign nationals to apply for Canadian permanent residency.
Designed to address labour market demands, the YNP is an employer-driven program. To be eligible for a nomination, both the foreign national and their employer must jointly submit an application.
Upon approval, the foreign national receives a nomination from Yukon, which can be used to apply for permanent residency through the Canadian federal government.
Reason for the Change
Previously, the Yukon Nominee Program (YNP) operated without defined intake periods or application caps, allowing nominations to be submitted year-round.
However, in 2024, the YNP experienced a significant surge in applications, surpassing the territory’s available nomination allocations.
As a temporary measure, the YNP paused accepting applications from employers in Whitehorse, Yukon’s capital and largest city, to manage the influx.
The new intake process, set to begin in 2025, is expected to enable the YNP to process applications more effectively and maintain availability throughout the year.
