Canada holds first education draw under Express Entry in more than four months, CRS cut-off score drops

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has resumed invitations under the Express Entry education category after more than four months.

In the latest draw, IRCC issued 2,500 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) to candidates who qualified under the education category. To be considered, candidates required a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 462 and needed to have created their Express Entry profile before 4:24 a.m. UTC on July 9, 2025.

Express Entry draw trends in 2025

This education-focused draw is only the second of its kind in Express Entry history. Compared to the first draw on May 1, today’s round invited more than double the number of candidates (from 1,000 to 2,500) and lowered the CRS cut-off (from 479 to 462).

So far, 2025 has been an active year for Express Entry. IRCC has conducted multiple draws across various categories, including the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), French language proficiency, healthcare and social services, and now education.
